Dr. Roy C. Fanguy PhD.
NOVEMBER 24, 1929 – AUGUST 18, 2019

Dr. Roy C. Fanguy PhD., Emeritus Professor, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18 at his home in College Station with his family by his side.
Family will receive guest from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday, August 24 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, refreshments will be provided.

Roy was born November 24, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana the son of George and Rose (Bacon) Fanguy. His family eventually moved to Greenwood, MS where he graduated from Greenwood High School in 1947. After graduation, Roy proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant. After the service he continued his education receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State, Master’s degree from Auburn and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University ‘58.

Dr. Fanguy taught genetics and physiology at Texas A&M University in the Poultry Science Department. His love of genetics led Dr. Fanguy to become involved in developing pedigrees for many show dog breeders across the country. He was also a consultant for many zoos, breeders, and clubs across the world involving ostriches, emus and rheas. Dr. Fanguy received a patent for his work in the poultry industry. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Farrell. Dr. Fanguy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Sigma Chi Fraternal Order. He enjoyed fishing, football and painting. He also developed a love of physics during the “Space Race”, as did many Americans, and it was a lifelong passion that he pursued as a hobby.

Dr. Fanguy is preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Fanguy; sisters, Alice Feltus and Dottie Green; and a brother, Bruce Fanguy.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann Fanguy; son and daughter-in-law, George and Lynette Fanguy of Austin, TX; daughter, Janet Fanguy of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Ryan Fanguy of Austin, TX and Rachel Fanguy of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Rosemary Fanguy McKelvey of Macon, GA; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Betsy Farrell of Vicksburg, MS, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association for research.
