Garrett Patrick Vander Grinten
March 03, 1989 - August 14, 2019

Garrett Patrick Vander Grinten, 30, Howard, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019. He was born on March 3, 1989, in Madison, WI to Allan and Paula (Breyer) Vander Grinten.

Garrett was a Bay Port High School graduate, Class of 2007. He continued education at UW-Eau Claire, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Garrett then attended the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, graduating in 2013 with his Master of International Affairs. Most recently, he was working in Customer Service at Schneider National.

Garrett played hockey from age 5 through high school. He was a hockey official for 10 years through college. Garrett also played lacrosse for Bay Port and UW-Eau Claire; and was a volunteer lacrosse goalie coach at Texas A&M.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, obtaining the Life Rank. Garrett shot sporting clays and enjoyed playing Elder Scrolls online.

He is survived by his parents, Allan and Paula; maternal grandparents, Virginia and Glen Breyer; paternal grandmother, Barbara Vander Grinten; aunts and uncles, Doug (Cindy) Breyer, Karla (Pete) Willcome, Lisa (Randy) Fischer, Robert Vander Grinten, Nancy Houfek; many cousins, other relatives and friends; as well as many billet brothers from the Green Bay Gamblers and the Green Bay Bullfrogs.

Garrett was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leonard Vander Grinten; and uncle, Patrick Vander Grinten.

Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2736 Glendale Ave., from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, August 21; followed by the Funeral Service at 12 p.m. with Rev. Jennifer Fite officiating with Rev. Tim Duesenberg delivering the sermon. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

Garrett greatly admired President George H. W. Bush (41) and his fun colorful socks. Garrett also loved fun socks. In his honor, please feel free to wear colorful and fun socks to his service.

A special thank you is extended to the staff of Unity Hospice and the Oncology staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center at Aurora BayCare Medical Center for their outstanding and wonderful care given to Garrett.
