Doxie Wootan
APRIL 10, 1930 ~ AUGUST 9, 2019 (AGE 89)

Eudoxie "Doxie" Wootan passed away August 9, 2019, at the age of 89.
Doxie was born in Abilene on April 10, 1930 to Orley and Alice (Bennett) Cannon. Growing up in Menard, Texas with her older brother Ted, Doxie was an athlete. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school, she went on to complete two years of college at the University of Texas. She finished her education at Texas A&M earning her Bachelor's of Art in Fine Art.
Doxie met her future husband Charley V. Wootan shortly after his return from service as a Marine in the South Pacific. The pair were blessed with a son, Richard, and a daughter Debra, who they raised in College Station. Always putting their family first, Doxie and Charley were very active in their children's lives. Even after they were adults, she was always there to talk, telling them, "It's so good to hear your voice." Enjoying a close relationship with her husband, Doxie loved to travel with him on trips with the "Traveling Aggies." A former Director of Transportation Initiative and a distinguished alum of Texas A&M, Charley passed away in 2001. Her family, including grandchildren, became even more important. An outstanding cook, she loved family gatherings, especially at Christmas where she decorated "to the max."
A sweet, classy lady with an amazing talent, Doxie was an accomplished watercolor artist who sold hundreds of commissioned paintings. Although she loved to paint, she was never able to put a price on her art. Doxie relied on her husband Charley to do this.
Doxie led a life full of laughter, love, and purpose. She was very social, and loved visiting with friends and family. A true Aggie, she loved A&M football and went to every home game for 50 years. She was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for about 60 years. She and her husband belonged to Briarcrest Country Club and several bridge clubs for many years. Doxie belonged to Junior League, Women's Club, and the Brazos Valley Art League She was a docent at the Bush Library.
Doxie leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Debra and Gary Roberson of Menard, Texas, her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Jean Wootan of Dallas, her grandchildren Clint Roberson and his wife Rosie of Menard, Tom Roberson of Menard, Steve Roberson of Menard, Sam Wootan of Austin, and Mary Beth Wootan Holst and her husband Bryan of Norfolk, Virginia, and her great-granddaughter Margaret Grace Holst. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charley.
To honor Doxie's life, her family has planned a memorial service at 10 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Doxie's name to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
