Funeral services for William A. "Bill" Mulkey, age 77, of Pioneer, Louisiana will be 2PM, Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Carlos Trapp officiating. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1PM - 2PM at Cox Funeral Home.

William A. "Bill" Mulkey passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Bill was born in Cabot, Arkansas on January 3, 1942. After graduation he furthered his education at the University of Arkansas and received a B S in Agriculture. He served in the Arkansas National Guard before attending Texas A & M, where he received his Masters and PH.D in Horticulture Genetics. He worked for many years at the LSU Ag Center Sweet Potato Research Station in Chase, Louisiana.

Bill or Doc as he was called by his friends and coworkers always loved to teach others what he knew about sweet potatoes and all other vegetables.

Bill is preceded in death by his father and step mother, Fred and Martha Mulkey; mother and step father, Audrey and George Travis; his wife, Velma Mulkey; brother, James Mulkey; sister, Freddie "Tener" Hankins.

Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and David Moran of Bastrop, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Amy Mulkey of McMechen, West Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Cori Mulkey of Pioneer, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Molly Mulkey, Brooke Mulkey, Kaitlyn Mulkey, Shelton Sumrall, Ashleigh Sumrall, Charles Moran, Eli Moran; brother, Tom Mulkey; sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Ronnie Abshure; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Ronnie Holland; and his best friend, Eminem, his dog.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Boudreaux, Freddie Copes, Venny Kinniard, Del Fankheuser, Andy Scott, Britt Whitley, Carl Hines, Jimmy Turner, and the late, Billy Brown, and the late Jim Sowell.

The family would like to thank Trenda House for being his loyal caregiver the past six months. We would also like to thank Premier Hospice for their care.
