October 16, 1960 - July 3, 2019

James Alden (Jim) Kornegay, III, age 58, of Allen, Texas passed away Wednesday evening, July 3, 2019, after a six-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

A rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church (“OLA”) located at 1914 Ridgeview Dr. in Allen, followed by visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, at Our Lady of Angels with Monsignor John Bell as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen.

Jim was born October 16, 1960 to James and Cecilia (Bonilla) Kornegay, Jr., in Bogota, Colombia. He was raised primarily in Garland, Texas, where he was a graduate of Lakeview Centennial High School. Jim graduated from Texas A&M University in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ’83 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. A member of the Corps of Cadets, he left with a strong commitment to the traditions and spirit of Aggieland; a legacy he passed on to his two sons, also graduates of Texas A&M.

Upon graduation in 1983, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Fletcher out of San Diego, California, travelling to places such as Hong Kong, Africa, and the Philippines. He left the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after 4 years of service, after which time he continued to work for the US Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, California for 8 years as a manager for combat systems post overhaul testing.

On December 2, 1989, while residing in California, he was united in marriage to Laurie McDavid and together they raised two sons, Ryan and Anthony. Jim and Laurie returned to their native Texas roots in late 1995, and she preceded Jim in death on August 5, 1996. On February 17, 2001, Jim married Christine (Chris) Beseda in Dallas, Texas.

In late 1996, Jim joined Electronic Data Systems in Plano, Texas where he worked as a business analyst and project manager for 12 years, developing and deploying processes for the delivery of network and infrastructure services across North America and Europe.

An avid photographer, in late 2008 Jim left the corporate world and began his own photography business. He later joined the Boy Scouts of America in 2010 in their national headquarters in Irving, Texas as a national plan coach for council strategic planning and also served as a project manager before retiring in January 2019.

Jim was a devout Catholic, a founding member of the ‘That Man Is You’ program at OLA and served as an Extraordinary Minister. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving 4th degree membership. In addition to his love of photography, Jim enjoyed grilling on the Big Green Egg, travelling with his family, and watching Aggie football games.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents. He was a kind, loving son, brother, uncle, husband and father, and is survived by his wife Chris of Allen; sons Ryan Kornegay of Addison and Anthony Kornegay of Dallas; sister, Diane Bounds and husband Brian of Friendswood, Texas; his parents, Jim and Cecilia, of Fairview; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Allen, in memory of Jim Kornegay. Family and friends are invited to share their thoughts and memories of Jim in the memorials.
