Colonel Gerald Gallatin (Jerry) Fonville (USAR) died Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the age of 77, following a seizure and other complications. Jerry was born on August 25, 1941 to the late Hubert Gallatin and Janet Stewart Fonville in Houston.

He attended Texas A&M as a member of the Corps of Cadets in Company A-1, Class of 1963, receiving a commission in the US Army upon graduation. His active service was at Fort Shafter in Hawaii, including service in Vietnam. After active service, Jerry followed in his father’s footsteps by going into Hospital Administration. He received his Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.

After marriage to Jean Fonville (nee Holland) he reactivated his military service by entering the Army Reserves, serving from 1974 until retirement as a Colonel in1996. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hubert Gallatin Fonville, and his nephew Gary Gallatin Fonville.

He is survived by his wife, daughter Amy F. Shields (Brant); his son James McClure Fonville (Ashley), and his 4 grandchildren Shannon Avery Shields, Tate Sullivan Shields, Lauren Olivia Shields, and Tahla Morgan Fonville. Other survivors include Jerry’s sister-in-law Nelda Fonville, nephew Dean Stewart Fonville (Jana) and grandnephew Greg Cathey (Misty).

A memorial service will held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, TX 77042 on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:00 am. A gathering will follow the service at the family home.
