Christopher C. Smith, Jr.
March 29, 1932 - June 01, 2019
Christopher C. Smith, Jr., Lt Col, USAF Retired, of New Braunfels, TX, went to be with his loving wife, Yvonne Myers Smith, on 1 June 2019 at the age of 87. A native of Grapeland, TX, he attended Texas A&M, graduating with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, and was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1955 -- so began his love of flying.
After flying multiple aircraft to include the T-33, F-86, F-100, C-130, KC-97, and KC-135, and serving as an Airborne Battlestaff Director and Commander of a Civil Engineering Squadron, Chris retired from the Air Force in 1978 and came home to Texas to live in New Braunfels.
Chris was also preceded in death by his parents, Christopher C. Smith, Sr., and Kleber Beazley Smith, along with his 4 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer L. Cline, Lt Col, USAF Retired, her husband Tim Cline and sons Lance and Landon, currently living in Montgomery, AL; and his son, Colonel C. Mike Smith, USAF, his wife Kristi McCormick Smith, and their children Mac, Maisie, Sailie, Cy and Cam, stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews mostly in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Louisiana.
Visitations will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Wednesday, June 26 from 3:00-7:00 PM and on Thursday, June 27 from 5:00-7:00 PM.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2019, with visitation with the family starting at 10:00 AM. Pastor Chuck DeHaven will be officiating.
Immediately after the service, a prayer service with military honors will follow a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in the name of Lt Col Christopher C. Smith, Jr., to the two areas he supported his entire adult life, Texas A&M and the United States Air Force. For Texas A&M, he has been added to the Class of 54 Memorial Fund under General Memorial at https://www.txamfoundation.com/give.aspx or checks can be made out and mailed to Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Dr., College Station, TX 77840.
