“I have had a good run.” Words spoken by Peggy Leeton two weeks prior to her death on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Midland, Texas. Peggy loved New Orleans, New York, Chicago and spending time in Laguna Beach with her grandchildren and cooking. Her mashed potatoes were legendary with her grandchildren.

Peggy was born on January 1, 1919 to Lucy Harriss Lewis and Angus Valentine Lewis in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Stripling High School now Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas. She sang in a “Girls Trio” during her 3 years of high school and was awarded the “Outstanding Actress Award” for the Fort Worth/Dallas Region.

She attended the North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, Texas now University of Texas Arlington, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the University of Southern California at Los Angeles and upon return from Southern Cal was told to not unpack her bags because she was to be on the next train to University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from TCU in Fort Worth in 1944.

In 1943, she married James Robert Leeton, Sr. who graduated from the University of Texas Law School and was a Pilot in World War II. After being stationed in a series of southern towns in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida during World War II, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas where Jim practiced law and Peggy and Jim raised five children. While living in Fort Worth, Peggy was a member of the Fort Worth Law Wives, Daughters of the American Revolution, San Jacinto Decedents, Jewel Charity Ball, Fort Worth Ballet Association, Fort Worth Children’s Art Association and the Fort Worth Opera Association where she served as President.

Peggy, Jim and the two youngest children moved to Odessa, Texas in 1965 where Jim owned and managed PL&B Well Servicing Company. Peggy was involved in the Odessa Permian Playhouse and President of the Odessa Art Association.

In 1972, they moved to Midland, Texas where Jim opened his Law Practice. Peggy taught for the Midland Independent School District and was the Vocational Adjustment Coordinator for Midland High School and was awarded “Best Teacher Award.” She was a member of the Midland/Odessa Symphony Guild and Midland Bridge Club, where she was a devoted bridge player.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents and husband, two brothers, John Laffett Lewis and Angus Valentine (Jack) Lewis, Jr. both of Fort Worth, daughters, Lucy Leeton Link, Kathy Leeton Fowler and Patricia Leeton, and granddaughter Andrea Fowler.

She is survived by her son, James R. Leeton, Jr. and wife Barbara of Midland, Texas, her daughter Elizabeth Leeton Shipman and husband Terry of Odessa, Texas, son in law, Peter J. Link and wife Maureen of Covington, Louisiana. Grandchildren: Peter Link, Jr. and wife Becky of Ladson, South Carolina, Lisa Link Edwards and husband Tony of Austin, Texas, Patricia Link of Austin, Texas, Helen Link Schenck and husband David of Covington, Louisiana, Melissa Fowler, James Fowler of Cleburne, Texas, Emily Leeton Misleh and husband Paul of Seattle, Washington, Ryan Leeton of Carpinteria, California, Justin Johns and wife Brittany of Round Rock, Texas, Jaclyn Johns McCabe of Odessa, Texas and Hillary Shipman Foreman and husband Kellen of Odessa, Texas and eighteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank her amazing caregiver of many years, Sofia Benavidez.

Memorial service and Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice of Midland, St. Ann’s Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
