Leroy Delbert Matthys
October 8, 1934 - May 17, 2019
Leroy Delbert Matthys, 84, of Leander, Texas, passed away on May 17, 2019. He was born on October 8, 1934, in Wharton, Texas, to Walter and Marie (Boerger) Matthys.
Leroy retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, Air Operations Officer, Pilot, in the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Leander Independent School District and retired after 16 years of service and then spent
20 years traveling with his wife Barbara. Leroy and Barbara are life-long members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church joining the congregation in 1977. Leroy’s faith was unsurpassed and is what will carry his family through this difficult time.
Speaking of family, Leroy held family in the highest esteem and could not think of anything better than to spend time with as many family members as possible at almost any time. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie Matthys; son, Walter
John Matthys; brother, George Matthys; three sisters, Marguerite Donsbach, Florence Haugen, and Sharron Vogel; and nephew, Johnny Matthys and niece Tonya Rucker. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Matthys, of Leander; children, Clifford Matthys and wife
Jeri of Lexington; Jackie Thomas and husband Scott of Georgetown; David Matthys and wife Kathy of Cedar Park; grandchildren, Walter Matthys and wife Suzanne, Dawn Matthys, Sean Thomas, Samantha Guier and husband Kevin; Jason Thomas; great grandchildren, Ryan,
Kennedy, Mackenzie, Finn, Eli and Ava; sisters, Ruby Johnson of San Antonio; Thelma Koehler of Seguin; brother-in-law, Virgil Vogel of Sequin; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Leroy Matthys may be sent to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 700 W. Whitestone, Cedar Park, TX 78613. Please make a special notation for donations to be used for the children's playground as he loved seeing
the children growing in the values of the church.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 28th, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 700 W. Whitestone, Cedar Park, Texas, 78613 with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
