David Austin Konderla (1935 - 2019) | Visit Guest Book
On Sunday, May 12, 2019, David Konderla entered into his eternal rest with our Lord Jesus Christ. He spent a fun-filled Mother’s Day attending Mass, eating hamburgers at Lake Bryan and watching a video of the life he shared with his wife Ann, who preceded him in passing. The joyful day reached its fulfillment when he peacefully entered the embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ and then shared a dance with Ann among the saints and angels. From humble beginnings as the son of a Polish emigrant – Joseph Rudolph Konderla - and a Texas-born mother – Janie Pauline Handlin - David grew up the fourth of seven siblings in Seagoville, Texas. He was a fun-loving child with an adventurous spirit. Even as a child, David revealed his serving heart by working in his grandmother’s bakery after school. He graduated from Jesuit High School of Dallas. After high school, David worked three jobs to put himself through college at Texas A&M University. He graduated Class of ‘58 with a BA in Business Management. While attending Texas A&M, David made a trip to Dallas to go on a blind date with a 22-year-old redheaded knockout who was attending St. Paul Nursing School. Since then, the movie “Gunfight at the OK Corral” held a special place in their hearts. Upon graduating from Texas A&M, David and Ann married and settled in Bryan, Texas. They raised 12 children with steadfast faith, unconditional love, patience, respect and discipline. David was a quiet, humble man who had the gift to say a lot with very few words. He enjoyed a simple, faithful life consisting of family, faith, fun and love…and more diapers than anyone could count. He was loved by all. He had a 38-year career with Washington National Insurance Company in Texas, which included a five-year stint in Corpus Christi and a 10-year stint in Greenville. Upon his retirement, he and Ann moved back to Bryan where they seamlessly reconnected with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as well as their lifelong friends and local family. David was an amazing man and a wonderful example of a Catholic, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. David is survived by his children, *Ann Hall* and her husband Jimmy; *Bishop David Konderla*; *Mary Fagan* and her husband James with sons Seth and Sean; *Nita Wilson* and her husband Rusty with children Hannah, Samuel and his wife Danielle (with their daughter Norah), and Abigail; *James Konderla* and his wife Jackie with children Kristal (and her children Dayton, Natalee , Madylin, and Chase), Wesley and his wife Rachel (with their daughter Jamie), Cory and his wife KiKi, Ashley, and grandchildren Anthony and Emma; *Margaret Alexander *and her husband Mike with daughter Savannah and her husband Sergio (with their children, Adalynn, Aria and Noah); *Kevin Konderla* with sons, Austin and Hunter; *Tim Konderla* and his wife Stacy, with children, Thomas, Gayle and Jonathan; *Patricia Kahlich* and her husband Joseph with son, Simon; *Cathy Caroon* with daughters Paige, Rachel and Meredith; *Joe Konderla,* and David’s beloved friend Christa Wade; and *Chuck Konderla *and his wife Lori with children, Matthew, Sara, Mark, John, Erika, Amber and Phillip. He is also survived by his siblings: Edward Konderla; Juanita Hunstable; John Robert Konderla and his wife Marynell; Nancy Donaldson and her husband David; and Joseph Konderla, as well as his numerous loving nieces and nephews. He is now reunited in Heaven with his most beautiful wife, Ann Louise Hoffman Konderla; his mother, father, and sister, Mary Paroski, sister-in-law Ann Hollack Konderla, and brother-in-law Fred Hunstable, and grandson Robert Lawrence. The family is appreciative for all the love and care provided by his numerous caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in David’s honor to St. Joseph Catholic School, 507 E. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803, Attention: Gentry Woodard, or CHI St. Joseph Hospital, 2801 Franciscan Dr., Bryan, TX 77802, Attention: Chuck Konderla. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with the rosary at 4:00 P.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 507 E. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Christ the Good Shepherd Chapel, 600 S. Coulter, Bryan, TX 77802. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in David's honor to St. Joseph's Catholic School, 507 E. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803, Attention: Gentry Woodard, or CHI St. Joseph's Hospital, 2801 Franciscan Dr., Bryan, TX 77802, Attention: Chuck Konderla. David Austin Konderla, 83, of Bryan, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 17, with 4 p.m. Rosary at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Christ the Good Shepherd Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Claire Brothers Funeral Home in Houston.
