Lee (Leland D.) Boyd, of Amarillo, passed to eternal life on January 24, 2019. Lee was born December 19, 1934 to Thomas Jackson Boyd and Beulah Echo Spence near Chilton, in Falls County, Texas. After graduating from Chilton High Lee attended Tarleton College and then graduated from Texas A&M University in 1957 with a BA – Journalism.
While at Tarleton he met Bonnah F. Brawley of Glen Rose. They maintained their relationship and married on Feb. 14, 1958. Lee served as a general reporter for newspapers in Friona, Bovina, Littlefield, McCamey, and Kermit Texas and Winkleman AZ. from 1958-1965. Daughter Darla was born in Littlefield in 1959. Son Dan was born in Fort Worth in 1960. The Boyd family moved to Lubbock in 1965 where Lee began a 10-year career as reporter for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. Lee moved to Amarillo in 1976 where he began to work for Iowa Beef Producers. Lee and Bonnah divorced in 1979.
Lee met Nadene Moore in Amarillo. They were married on Aug 23, 1980. Lee became step dad to Barbara, Patricia, Kay, James Allen, and Shirley. He loved his 16.5 year career with the Amarillo Street Department retiring in 2008.
More than any career Lee is remembered as a man of a gracious and encouraging spirit who loves Jesus and walked in the power of the Holy Spirit. He and Nadene shared a love for ministry to men and women incarcerated in area prisons.
He was preceded in death by sister Geneva Davis and brothers Iverson and Melvin Boyd and grandson Skylar McFadden.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight and half years, Nadene Moore Boyd; daughter Darla Boyd of Houston; son Rev. Dan Boyd (Renee) of Carlsbad, NM; stepdaughters Barbara Cullen (Bennie) of El Reno, OK, Patricia Coombs of Wichita, KS, Kay Leftwich of Van Buren, AR, Shirley Moore of Amarillo, TX and stepson James Allen Moore (Eydie) of Wichita, KS. Lee is survived by 19 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother Nolan of McGregor, TX and sister Ruth Nicholson of Pinetops, NC. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and treasured family and friends.
A celebration memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Jubilee Apostolic Church at 5804 Erik Ave. in Amarillo, TX. The family requests memorials to the church.
