Karen Tohkubbi
NOVEMBER 6, 1942 ~ FEBRUARY 15, 2019 (AGE 76)

Karen Kay Tohkubbi went from the loving care of her earthly family immediately into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on February 15, 2019 at 8:19 a.m. at Fortress Nursing Facility, under Hospice care in College Station, Texas. She was born in Mankato, Minnesota on November 6, 19XX. (A lady never reveals secrets). She was 29 and holding steady. 12
Her parents were Don Johnson and Marjorie Johnson.

Karen’s remaining family are her children, son Donny Tohkubbi and wife of Odessa, Texas; daughter Chrissy Kana and husband of Houston, Texas, son John Tohkubbi, an Army Veteran of the Gulf War, of College Station, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Pam Schabert of Minnesota; stepmother Millie Johnson and stepbrother Don Boyd of New Mexico. A visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on February 25, 2019 at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station, Texas.

Chrissy and Donny were the last to be with Karen on February 14, 2019...Valentine’s Day. They spent the rest of Valentine’s Day caring for her as she cared for them by lovingly providing for her and tending her needs. Sensing when Mom was overwhelmed from too much noise, Chrissy would lovingly clear the room so Mom could rest. An act of kindness that our mom appreciated and expressed gratitude for Chrissy’s thoughtfulness. Donny got to moisten her lips that were dry, tenderly caress her and speak words of love into her ear.

John faithfully provided his mom with her needs right on schedule when mom wanted and needed them. On February 15 John was right by her side tending and caring for her Spirit as it prepared to leave.

John, Chrissy and I have broken hearts as we have lost our one and only Valentine.

Karen loved her country and wanted things to be run correctly by the Government. She was involved in local politics in ways such as aiding a local politician to get elected as County Commissioner, volunteering her time as a poll watcher from time to time, and a proud member of the Republican Women of Brazos Valley. She was always encouraging her children to vote and write their Senators!

Karen was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, earning her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Karen then worked in the medical field, focusing primarily on home health, for many years because she had a passion for taking care of and helping people.

Karen had a deep love for God through her relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. She wanted to share her faith with anyone willing (and sometimes the not so willing! :-)) to listen.

Daily Karen emailed survival tips both physical and spiritual. Many of her emails were about physical survival in case the “big one” hit or if we were forced to choose between the mark of the Beast for buying and selling. She frequently encouraged her loved ones to stock up on food and water just in case. In fact, she had a collection Military MRE’s for her own physical survival. Karen was often quoted as saying, “stock up now while there is still time...!!!” In her spiritual survival tips, Karen warned that choosing the mark of the beast meant turning your back on God. A fact Karen knew by heart as she read the Bible an estimated 50 plus times in her life. Karen’s survival plan for herself included regular prayer time at 9 pm every night with her best friend of 50 + years: Mrs. Leta Hurst.

In 1985, divorced and broken hearted, she found a way to encourage others in the same boat. She surrounded her friends with her love and taught them how to study God's word and how to apply Him to their life. Karen, like her earthly father was fiercely independent, self -reliant, and highly intelligent. She lived her life on her terms. She didn’t just take someone’s word about things, she diligently searched out the truth and researched, researched and researched. She was a woman of courage and relied upon the Lord in every situation, right till the very end. She trusted God’s Word, prayed God’s Word and taught her friends and family to pour out their heart out in prayer.

Karen’s last survival tip was words of comfort for her departure from this world. She sent this last devotional to her friends and family in January 2019 about a month before her death.

***DAILY DEVOTION FROM KAREN***

Are you looking forward to going to Heaven? You will see your loved ones in the Lord and all your Christian family, including the 12 disciples. All who have put their faith in Jesus Christ to save them from sin will be there.

In Heaven, where Jesus lives, you will have no more tears, sorrow, pain, weakness and most importantly, NO MORE SICKNESS!! There is no more pain from sin and death. You will have a perfect, glorified body and experience pure Holiness from God forever!

Nothing compares to God. You have never seen anything as glorious and majestic as our loving Creator or felt anything so good as The Holy Spirit in perfection. He is the Perfection and unending Joy we long to know.

So draw near to God. Set your mind on the Lord all day. Lift your hands in praise to God and follow in Christ’s footsteps which will lead you right to Him. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

God loves you and so do I. I am praying that you will open your heart to Him more. If you don’t know how to do that or not even sure you believe, just ask Him to show you. After all, He saved a sinner like me so He will take you as you are.

Oh Death where is your Victory? Oh Death where is your Sting?

Love in Christ,
Karen
