John Watson Terry
DECEMBER 20, 1926 – JANUARY 15, 2019

Tuesday, January 15, we said earthly goodbyes to our daddy. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family with all his heart. Daddy was full of faith and loved the Lord. Even through his long journey with Alzheimer’s, he never stopped being kind to those around him. As we sat in the quietness of his room listening to his last breaths, with Mom by his side, we held his hands and talked about all the things these hands had done in his 92 years. So much love was extended, working hard in the print shop, pulling wagons, caring and giving to others that some had turned their backs on, taking care of his family, working hard so mom could raise children, playing with us, disciplining us, helping with homework, holding the Bible and other books and reading to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working crossword puzzles, building snowmen, repairing toilets and drinking fountains at the church, even painting the stripes in the parking lot by hand, holding hands as he walked daughters down the aisle, holding granddaughters’ hands on neighborhood walks, holding mom’s hand when she had cancer, loving us unconditionally even when we did wrong... Daddy was a servant and friend to all. We love you to the moon and back and will miss you everyday. We know one day we will see you again and there will be no more goodbyes. We will take care of mom!!! We know as you stand in God’s presence, He says, “Well done good and faithful servant!”

John Watson Terry was born December 20, 1926 in Rosebud, Texas, as he would always say, “to be close to my mother.” His parents were Loyd and Helena, brothers were James and Roger Lee. He grew up in Bowie and Wichita Falls, Texas. John graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Army and served in the Philippines and Japan through 1946. He followed his love of airplanes and flight and earned an associate’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Spartan in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduating, John worked for 41 years as a Flight Test Engineer for Chance Vought. In 1950 an early project took him to Ardmore, Oklahoma, where he met and married Rose Maxine Frost. John and Maxine were married 68 years. He is survived by his wife, four children, two sons-in-law, seven grandchildren and their spouses, seven great-grandchildren, and many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4-6, at Moore Funeral Home. His Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, at 10:00 a.m. also at Moore Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Moore Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
