He was born in Beaumont, TX, on November 14, 1945 and passed away in Austin, TX, on April 27, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents John Walter McGinty, Sr. and Maxie Palmer McGinty, and brother Robert Brent McGinty. Charlie is survived by his wife
of 50 years, Carolyn Ann McGinty, sons Patrick Rhett McGinty (Elaine), Ian M. McGinty (Heather) and Niall B. McGinty (Kate); brother John W. McGinty (Rickie); sister Marilyn McGinty Schertz (Stuart); grandchildren Molly Loveland, Nathaniel McGinty, Nicholas
McGinty, Aidan McGinty, Mason McGinty, and Aoife McGinty; and various nieces and nephews.
Charlie was in the TAMU class of ’68, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor’s in Architecture, and received a Master’s in Building Construction in 1978. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1969-1975. Charlie was a pilot and flew C-130’s transporting cargo in
support of the Vietnam War to Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam in 1973. He finished his time in the service as an Instructor Pilot. Charlie worked much of his career for General Contractors in Construction, usually as the Senior Estimator.
The most notable achievement, in which he was instrumental, was the glass entrance to Sea World in San Antonio. Charlie retired from Wurzel Builders in Austin in 2013, and he and Carolyn began RV-ing fulltime in 2014. Their first volunteer job was at LBJ State
Park at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm as interpreters. Charlie loved talking about the history of LBJ and the area as well as the early pioneers who settled there. They then moved to Pharr, Texas and volunteered as weekend managers, and finally to
Fredericksburg in 2015 as managers of Fredericksburg RV Park.
