James W. Campise
MAY 12, 1944 – FEBRUARY 21, 2019

Funeral services for James William Campise, 74, of Bryan will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Visitation will precede the service at 9 a.m. Burial will be at the Aggie Field of Honor.

James was born May 12, 1944, to a farming family in the Brazos River Bottom. He was raised in Bryan, where he attended Bryan High School and was captain of the baseball team.

He graduated as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s of business in accounting in 1966 and a master’s of business administration in management in 1968. A lifelong resident of Bryan, he taught accounting at Texas A&M University. He co-owned a fuel distributorship in Hearne in the 1970s and then partnered with his brother in an agricultural chemical business, Central Valley Chemicals, which was sold to Con Agra in 1981.

James retired from his role of vice president of the business in 2000 and worked as a partner in the family’s oil and gas and cattle operations. He deeply enjoyed hunting, fishing and Aggie football, basketball and baseball.

James is preceded in death by his father, Joe S. Campise of Bryan, his mother, Frances Ferreri Campise, and his son-in-law, Alexander de la Torre of Houston.

He is survived by two brothers, Sam J. Campise and Joe S. Campise Jr., both of Bryan, daughter Kelli de la Torre of Houston, son and daughter-in-law David and Kathrin Campise of Taylor and grandchildren Alexander de la Torre and Tristan and C’Anne Campise.
