Dr. Peter Richardson Maynard
1947 - 2019

Toms River – Dr. Peter Richardson Maynard, 71, died Monday, February 11, 2019 at Community Medical Center in Toms River.



Born in Lewiston, Idaho Pete lived in Peck Idaho until he was two. His mother then moved their family to Prince Bay, Staten Island NY where he grew up. After high school, Pete received his Master from CCNY, then moved to College Station, Texas to pursue his PhD at Texas A & M University.

After graduation, Pete moved to North Plainfield where he and his late wife, Dona raised their family. After the passing of his wife in 2002, Pete relocated to Rockaway, NJ for some time, recently moving to Toms River, NJ this past year.

Initially a Professor in Biology at Kean University Pete went on to be a freelance Scientific Underwriter for Pharmaceutical companies. He was a Senior Underwriter for a few companies before he retired, educating medical doctors on newly developed drugs, so they can incorporate them safely into their practice.

After retiring from the Pharmaceutical field, Pete spent most of his time with his dog, they would frequent the local dog park where he was always a big hit; willing to share a few treats. Pete also enjoyed racquetball and was an avid book reader.

Predeceased by his wife, Dona and brother Robert Maynard; surviving are his two daughters, Michelle Taliercio and husband Mike of Charleston, SC and Marissa Moreno and husband Johnny of Brick, NJ; sister, Francis O’Hagan of Saylarsburg, PA and girlfriend, Marion Barbato of Toms River, NJ.

He will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Jessica, Joey, Danny and Mikey Moreno and his rescue dog, Opal.

A memorial gathering will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 1-3PM.

In place of flowers, we ask that you donate in his name to the rescue organization where Opal was adopted from, the 11th Hour Dog Rescue in Rockaway, NJ. www.EHRdogs.org.
