Loyd Alan Doering
On 2/11/2019 Loyd Alan Doering succumbed to the cancer that he had been fighting for 7 months and is now pain and cancer free, in Heaven with Jesus and family and loved ones that preceded him. He leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Claire Doering; children, David Doering (Debbie), Jim Doering (Tammy), Debbie Della Silva (Joseph) and Mark Doering (Courtney): grand children, Andrew Doering (Julie), Allison Berry (Brett), Jessica Gentry (Josh), Clark Della Silva, Grant Della Silva and Cami Doering; great grandchildren, Lyla Grace Doering and Brynlee Kate Gentry. Loyd was born on 9/6/1927 in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. He graduated from High School in Ft. Worth, Texas and followed with degrees in Math and Mechanical Engineering, earned with the G.I. Bill, from Texas A&M University. After moving to Huntsville, Alabama in 1963, Loyd pursued a career as an Engineer working on many different aspects of the missile defense systems that were developed in Huntsville, finally retiring in 1993. Loyd was tirelessly involved and lived a full, busy life. From Band Parents to Scouts, Sunday School to Deacon, Loyd gave freely of his time. He was a youth soccer referee and taught refereeing. He was an avid runner, participating in 5K and 10K races almost every weekend. He was also trained and certified as a Child Advocate - making sure that children on the fringe of the legal system have someone on their side. Loyd and Claire have been long time members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. There will be a Memorial Service this Saturday, Feb.16 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Visitation is at 2pm and the service will be held at 3pm followed by a reception. Per his wishes, Loyd's body has been donated to the Medical School at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations or memorials be made to The Russell Hill Cancer Foundation at Clearview Cancer Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
