Max F. Powell (my father) passed away April 9, 2014 at the age or 90.
Texas A&M Class of 1949
After serving in the Pacific Navy during WWII he studied Petroleum Engineering at A&M. There is a powerful story about my father being accepted at A&M as a WWII Veteran while having no High School degree, due to his early enlistment in the Navy for WWII. After graduating A&M he continued as a highly successful Petroleum Discovery Engineer, many years later becoming Chief Examiner of the Texas Rail-Road Commission in Austin, Tx. He then spent his remaining career as an expert witness in Oil & Gas Courtroom Litigation. In this role, his clients never lost a case.
Our family car in 1965 was a Maroon & White Lincoln Continental. My brother, Joe Powell graduated A&M in 1969 in Architecture following it with a Masters Degree as well. Joe Powell is still enjoying a very successful career organizing all aspects in building hospitals across the USA.
I was accepted to A&M in 1969 and had to choose either between pre-med or music as a Major. I chose Music which demanded my transfer to Sam Houston State University. I was in the Corps of Cadets A-1 as a Fish and sang in the Singing Cadets. Having to transfer from Texas A&M to SHSU was very sad, but the Aggie blood continues to this day, regardless. Gig'em.
