Kenton S. Ahrens, Sr.
May 5, 1935 - January 26, 2019

Kenton S. Ahrens, Sr. of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the age of 83 in Kerrville while in hospice care. Mr. Ahrens was born in Fredericksburg, Texas to Edgar and Melinda Ahrens on May 5, 1935. On August 21, 1964, Mr. Ahrens married Lina Rankhorn Ahrens at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville, Texas.

In his early years, Mr. Ahrens went to school in the White Oak Community of Gillespie County in a one- room schoolhouse that is now located on the Pioneer Museum grounds in Fredericksburg. Mr. Ahrens attended Tivy High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1954. He then attended Schreiner Institute (now Schreiner University) in Kerrville, Texas A&M University, where he received his Bachelors degree in Agricultural Science and was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and Class of 1957. Mr. Ahrens then attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) where he received his Masters Degree in Public Education. Mr. Ahrens was a member of the Army National Guard for 15 years in Kerrville and a member of the Hermann Sons Lodge 041-2 out of Fredericksburg, Texas for over 40 years.

In his career as a school teacher, Mr. Ahrens taught science for over 30 years for Kerrville public schools teaching at both Tivy High School and Hal Peterson Middle School. Mr. Ahrens retired from teaching in 1990. During the summers, he drove for Kerrville Bus Company and spent much of his free time cattle and sheep ranching on his family ranch near Harper, Texas.

Kenton Ahrens, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Lina Ahrens; sister, Janet Ahrens; mother, Melinda Ahrens; and father, Edgar Ahrens.

Mr. Ahrens is survived by his daughter, Dina Ahrens Campos; son-in-law, Miguel Campos; son, Kenton Ahrens, Jr.; daughter, Sandra Dyer; and his grandchildren, Hailey Ahrens, Melina Campos and Ava Campos, whom he was more proud of than words could express.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Grimes Funeral Chapels located at 728 Jefferson St. in Kerrville, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, February 1, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church located at 634 Barnett St. in Kerrville and burial will follow at Garden of Memories.

The family of Mr. Ahrens wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at River Hills Health and Rehabilitation, Peterson Hospital emergency room doctors and nurses and Methodist Stone Oak Hospital ICU and Telemetry doctors and nurses for taking such great care of Mr. Ahrens.
