Maury A. Babin
FEBRUARY 12, 1925 ~ JANUARY 23, 2019 (AGE 93)

Maury Anthony Babin, age 93, went to be with our Lord on January 23, 2019. He was born on February 12, 1925 to Earl and Pearl Babin in Algiers, Louisiana. He was raised in Port Arthur, Texas. He was captain of the football team at Thomas Jefferson High School where he graduated in 1942. He then went on to Lamar State College for one year. During his time there, he played in the 1943 Oil Bowl in Houston with the Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI) Navy Team. Upon enlisting to serve in the United States Navy, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade during World War II, and was on active duty from June 15, 1943 to May 23, 1945 and then served in the Naval Reserve from May 24, 1945 to August 28, 1946. He then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and married Dorothy Laurine Rushing in Dallas, Texas and worked as an Electrical Engineer for Line Materials. After 25 years of marriage and seven children, Dorothy passed away. Maury later married Jeannine Lummus in Corpus Christi, Texas where he worked for McGraw Edison Electrical Equipment Manufacturer. After 27 years of marriage to Jeannine, she predeceased him as well. Maury was an avid golfer, and could have easily become a professional golfer if he had “had the time”. He will always be remembered for his love of funny jokes, tender nature, devotion to his family and friends, and above all, his strong faith.
Maury is survived by his daughters, Linda, Leslie, Loretta, Lisa and sons, Mark and Michael. His first born son, Eric, predeceased him. Maury is also survived by three of Jeannine’s children, David, Russell and Ryan. He was also a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather to many, with whom he truly enjoyed spending much time.
