Harold Mathias Gassen
April 04, 1946 - December 19, 2018

Harold Mathias Gassen of Franklin, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 19. 2018 in Temple, Texas at the age of 72. Harold was born April 4, 1946 to George Gassen and Eileen Ottis Gassen in Bay City, Texas. Harold graduated from Franklin High School and attended Texas A&M University for five years graduating in 1968 with a degree in Architectural Construction. He served in the United States Army Reserve and was a proud veteran and life long supporter of Texas A&M. He was self employed as a cabinet maker and home builder for 50 years, retiring and leaving the business to his son Kevin Gassen. Harold might have been retired but he was always active with advice or tips to make any job or project easier. He always had an open door to his shop for anyone who needed his help or advice. Harold married his wife Carolyn Jean Mills June 6, 1971 in Bryan, Texas. Harold was a founding member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Franklin, Texas, as well as an honorary member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.



Harold is survived by: Son Kevin Gassen and wife Heather Gassen of Franklin, Four sisters Dolores Mustachia of Houston, Bea Wohleb of Temple, Ellen Johnson and Mary Stegall both of Franklin, two brothers Gerald Gassen of Groves, Texas and Paul Gassen of Franklin. Harold is also surrvived by his three grandchildren Kailey Jean Gassen , Mathew Mathias Gassen and Shelby Michele Gassen, many cousins, nieces and nephews and innumerable friends.



Harold never met a stranger, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. The family requests that rather than mourn the loss of a friend, you instead celebrate his life and never stop telling the stories of your friendship.



Preceded in death by; Wife Carolyn Gassen and father George Gassen and mother Eileen Gassen.



Visitation will be at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin on December 29, 2018 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

Services will be held on Saturday December 29, 2018 at 1:00pm at St. Francis Catholic Church in Franklin, Texas.

Graveside service will be a private service at a later date.
