James Roberts Cartier
February 22, 1948 - January 4, 2019

WESTWORTH VILLAGE - James "Jim" Roberts Cartier, 70, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019.
Jim was born in Austin on Feb. 22, 1948, to Hector "Tom" Cartier and Doris Nell (Roberts) Cartier. He served in the U. S. Navy during Vietnam as a Seabee Diver. After Vietnam, he began his career as a police officer in San Marcos where he earned a bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University. Jim went on to work for the Houston Area Council of Governments where he met the love of his life and wife, Sylvia Ann Cartier. They moved to Austin in 1978, where he lived with his family for over 36 years before retiring and moving to Westworth Village. He worked as a Senior Manager for Security and Investigations at Advanced Micro Devices for over 30 years and during this time, he earned a master's degree from Texas A&M University in 1985. Jim served on the board of the Capital Area Crime Stoppers, including time spent as chairman, and he co-founded and sat on the board of the Austin Metro High Tech Foundation.
Jim had an undeniable love for and sincere devotion to the Catholic Church and faith, as well as his family and friends. His many devotions of his talents and time to the church included Stephen Minister, Eucharistic Minister and as a Homebound and Hospital Minister. He knew no strangers and could carry on a lengthy conversation with anyone that he knew or even just met. Jim enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and Texas A&M football amongst many other things, but he truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren above all other activities.
