Kenneth Marlow Hankins, Sr.
October 18, 1933 - January 2, 2019

Kenneth M. Hankins, Sr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by his family.

Kenneth was born to Annabel Whitley Hankins and D. M. Hankins on October 18, 1933 in Odessa, Texas at the Headlee Clinic. The family lived in Crane, Texas and moved to Odessa in 1935. Kenneth attended school in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1952 and then graduated from Texas A&M in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Pat Roscoe, on June 9, 1956. They were married 52 years until her death on January 2, 2009.

Kenneth was self-employed as an independent oil producer. He was also co-owner of Kiddie Kollege Kindergarten for many years where he drove the school bus every morning. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas for over 50 years. Kenneth taught youth and adult Sunday School classes and was Chairman of the Church Picnic and the Wild Game Banquets for many years. He also served on numerous church committees throughout the years and was Chairman of the Building Committee for the new Worship Center. Kenneth was active in his community serving on the Tri Ethnic Committee for ECISD as well as a finish judge for the West Texas Relays for 50 years. He was honored for his efforts working on school bond issues. He was the Odessa High School Football Booster Club President in 1974-75. He also served on the Ector County Appraisal Board and the Ector County Park Board. Kenneth loved all things Texas A&M and was a member of the 12th Man Foundation Board in addition to other Texas A&M committees. Kenneth served as President of the Odessa A&M Club and helped several Odessa students obtain funds to attend Texas A&M.

Kenneth married Dian Bateman Sherrod on April 16, 2016 and moved to San Antonio, Texas. They spent the last few years traveling, golfing and enjoying retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annabel and D. M. Hankins and his first wife, Pat Hankins.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Dian, of San Antonio; son, Ken Hankins, Jr. and wife, Ann, of Midland; daughter, Ann Kennedy and husband, Glenn; son, Grayson Hankins and wife, Leslie, all of Odessa; and daughter, Angela Pettit and husband, John, of San Antonio; grandchildren, K. M. “Tripp” Hankins III and Porter Hankins of Midland; Travis Kennedy and wife, Laura, of Ft. Worth; Elizabeth Kennedy Barnhisel and husband, Captain Robert Barnhisel, of Beaufort, South Carolina; Kyle Hankins Kennedy, and Madison, Garrett and Grant Hankins all of Odessa; and Georgia and Anna Beth Tipton of San Antonio; and great-grandson, Bo Barnhisel.

Graveside service will be at 11 am, Monday, January 7, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm at First Baptist Church of Odessa following the burial and will be officiated by Dr. Byron McWilliams. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home of Odessa.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Odessa Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
