In Memoriam of Lance Allen Bertrand

July 30, 1969 - December 30, 2018

Lance Allen Bertrand was born July 30, 1969 in Crowley, Louisiana. He was the youngest of three children born to Nellarene and Olan Bertrand. Lance's father was an Electrical Engineer for NASA. The family lived in southeast Houston, and Lance graduated 4th in his class from South Houston High School in 1987. During high school, he played viola and was in the orchestra. He also worked at the nearby AMC movie theater. Some of his greatest lifelong friends were made through the commonality of being in the orchestra or working at the movie theater with him. During the summertime and holidays, Lance and his family enjoyed spending time in Iota and Basile, Louisiana, visiting grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Lance went on to attend Texas A&M University. He followed in his father's and his brother's footsteps and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After the opportunity to Co-op with Texas Instruments during college, Lance accepted a job with Texas Instruments and was a loyal and trusted employee there for over 24 years at their location in Stafford, Texas. Through this job, Lance developed more friendships that lasted the rest of his life.

On June 25, 2008 in Houston, Texas, Lance met and began dating Therese Bienvenu, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Willie Z. Bienvenu. Therese is a Family Nurse Practitioner who is originally from south Louisiana. With many shared interests and families from the same region of Louisiana, Lance and Therese quickly realized they were meant for each other. They got engaged on December 25, 2008 and were married in Lafayette, Louisiana on March 28, 2009. Their son, Jude Allen Bertrand, was born February 1, 2010. Their daughter, Jolie Therese Bertrand, was born May 18, 2011. They have lived most of their married life in Cypress, Texas.

Lance had many interests and hobbies including golf, running, cycling, swimming, reading, playing basketball, home beer brewing, and playing fantasy football. He volunteered for the Children's Art Project at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and he rode in the M.S. 150 numerous times to raise money for the National M.S. Society. Ironically, Lance was diagnosed with both Multiple Sclerosis and Stage IV lung cancer after volunteering for these organizations.

Lance was an honest and trustworthy person and someone everyone loved to be around. He was always there when you needed him most. He was an incredible son, grandson, nephew, brother, uncle, cousin, husband, father, and friend. He was a loyal employee with impeccable work ethic. He was a leader, a manager, and a team builder. He was a best friend to many, and he valued his family, friends, and faith above all else. And he was a whole-hearted fan of the Aggies, the Texans, the Astros, and the Rockets.

Despite the battles Lance faced with M.S. and lung cancer, Lance was truly determined to keep a smile on his face. He earned many titles including "Superman", "The Legend", and "Miracle Man", but his favorite title was "Captain" given to him many years ago by his best friend, Tim Jenkins. Lance leaves a legacy, and his fighting spirit and determination have left a lasting impression that will never be forgotten.

Lance is preceded in death by his grandparents: Edward and Elda Bertrand and Gaston and Clarise Cart. He is survived by his loving wife Therese Bienvenu Bertrand; children: Jude Allen Bertrand and Jolie Therese Bertrand; parents: Olan Joseph and Nellarene Cart Bertrand; siblings and their spouses: Brent and Paula Bertrand, Monica and Albert Vega; father-in law and mother-in-law: Willie and Marianne Bienvenu; his wife’s siblings and their spouses: Marie and Thomas Wright, Anne and Wayne Daigle, Will and Simone Bienvenu, Rev. Paul Bienvenu and Michelle and Karl Seymour; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to one of the following organizations that positively impacted Lance during his journey with lung cancer and multiple sclerosis:
