Michael William "Mike" Menzies, age 73, of Baird, passed from this life on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Hendrick Hospice in Abilene. He was born on February 13, 1945 in Bryan, TX to George Craigmile Menzies and Estelle (Sheppard) Menzies. Mike worked for the Texas Department of Health, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Baird First Baptist Church.
Mike graduated from Texas A&M with the Class of 1967 and was a huge "Aggie" fan. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. In his earlier years, Mike looked forward to his trips to Colorado to hunt elk and to spend time in the mountains. If not at home, you could find him hunting deer in Oplin or at his ranch in Menard, TX. He was a hard worker, loving husband, dad, brother and granddad. He cherished his family dearly and will be missed by many.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Sheila Menzies of Baird; daughter: Kathleen Presher and husband Troy of Humble, TX; son: Michael William "Bill" Menzies and wife Sarah of Alamogordo, NM; and daughter: Jordan McClain and husband David of Baird; two sisters: Tyra Bevers and husband Bill of Spring, TX and Nancy Vaughn and husband Dennis of Austin, TX; grandchildren: Sarah, Cameron, Eli, Lilah, Liam, Sutton, Ireland and Ridge; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Craig Menzies.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the Baird First Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Hatcher officiating. Mike was laid to rest at Atwell Cemetery following the service.
