Ted Laroy Hatcher
September 10, 1927 - November 17, 2018

Ted Laroy Hatcher, 91 of Kingsland, Texas, passed away on November 17, 2018, in the comfort of his own home. He was born on September 10, 1927, to Eugene Laroy Hatcher and Mable Pauline Sparkman in Coleman, Texas. Ted grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. A proud Aggie, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M in 1950. Ted served in the United State Navy for two years on a vessel in the Atlantic investigating, diffusing and removing underwater mines.

Ted was a man of great faith. He started, at the young age of 9, attending South Coleman Baptist Church. He later attended and was ordained as a deacon for Lakeside Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Kingsland, and most recently, Buchanan West Baptist Church. He loved to serve the church and worked with Odis Shaw to start a bussing system for Lakeside Baptist Church. He drove one of the buses for 8 years. Ted was passionate about his faith and felt grateful that he was able to lead Richard Pinson to Christ – a man who later dedicated his life to serving the Lord as a preacher.

Ted was also a very intelligent and meticulous man who worked for Texas Power & Light Company, later Texas Utilities, for 37 years, climbing his way up to manager of System Engineering. He was a member of the IEEE for many years and had a Professional Engineers License. He represented the Electric Reliability of Texas on the National Electric Reliability Council for several years. Ted made a member of ETA KAPA NU Association, honor society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, in 1967. Other memberships include The Downtown Optimist Club, of which he was a President, and the Lions Club.

Ted had two loving wives who preceded him in death – Matilu Griffin and Frances Foster. He was also preceded in death by his sister Patsy Brice and brother Dale Hatcher.

He leaves behind his son Michael Hatcher of Dayton, Tennessee, daughters Tedilu Darbyshire of Kingsland, Texas and Linda Whitlow of Justin, Texas, sister Ginger Baugh of Rockwall, Texas, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
