Born: January 5, 1924
Died: November 17, 2018
Location: San Antonio, Texas

Joseph F. Speier, 94, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Joe was born on January 5, 1924 in San Antonio, the third son of Anthony A. and Elizabeth Lessing Speier. He graduated from Central Catholic High School 1941 and attended Texas A&M from 1942-1943. Joe served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1945, doing tours in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He received his BBA in 1949 at St. Mary's University. He earned a private pilot's license in 1947. Joe went to work for the Department of Defense and retired in 1976. During that time he lived in San Antonio, Del Rio, Anchorage, Alaska, and Reno, Nevada. After that he began a second career as a real estate agent, from 1977-1988. Joe was a member of the Del Rio Rotary Club from 1952-1955, the Helotes Lion's Club from 1964-1978. A Hermann Son member since 1945, he also was a docent at the Institute of Texan Cultures from 1984 to the present, and a staff member of Alamo PC. An active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, he served as an usher for 20 years, a member of Los Amigos, and was also active in the 786 Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in passing by his wife of 55 years, Lillian Crump Speier. Joe is survived by many nieces and nephews.
