JOSE AGUSTIN SOLIS
10/5/1925 - 10/13/2018

Jose Agustin Solis
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Agustin “Gus” Solis, in his 94th year on October
13th, 2018. Peacefully surrounded by family and clergy at Peterborough Regional Health Centre in Ontario. Loving husband of 44 years to Jean Solis (nee Hopkins). Devoted father of Tracy (Mike) Moroney and Alan (Amber Cox) McMillan. Beloved grampa to Ryan, Alison and Emma. Pre-deceased by brothers Carlos (Teresa) and Alfredo (Yvonne); survived by sisters Ruth (Roberto) and Letty (Luis). Gus will be greatly missed by the many nieces and nephews comprising his adoring extended family in Mexico. Gus was born in Orizaba, Mexico on October 3rd, 1925. A devoted “Aggies” fan, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Gus began his 31-year career with Sonoco Products in 1959. Employed as an engineer at their Mexico City plant, he quickly rose to the rank of Vice President of Manufacturing. In the Spring of 1972, Gus accepted a position at the Brantford plant of Sonoco Canada Corp. It was while living in Brantford that he met Jean, a single mother of two. The couple married soon after, buying a home on an acre of land and re-locating the new family from Oakville to Brantford in 1973. Gus was licensed as a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario in 1975. He stayed with Sonoco Canada for the remainder of his career, attaining the positions of General Manager followed by Vice President, Paper Division. Gus retired from Sonoco upon reaching mandatory retirement age in 1990. Jean and Gus enjoyed many years together in retirement, travelling the world before finally re-locating to Peterborough, ON in 2016 to live nearer to family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 beginning at 1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 155 Memorial Drive, Brantford, ON. Reception to celebrate Gus’s life will follow at North Ridge Municipal Golf Course, 320 Balmoral Drive, Brantford, ON. Those wishing to make a donation in Gus’s memory are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences can be left at www.nisbettfuneralhome.com
