Allen Guthrie, III, 73, of Panama City went to his Heavenly home Wednesday, October 17. Allen was born August 12, 1945 in New York City, New York. As a young child of a military father, he lived in New York, Virginia, Austria, France, New Jersey and Texas. He attended Tarleton State College, then transferred to Texas A & M University where he graduated May 27, 1967. Allen met his wife Cheryl in May, 1965, asked her to marry him on their third date. Cheryl was 17 yrs. old. They married on May 28, 1967, the day after his college graduation. Lived in Killeen, Texas for 5 yrs., working as a computer analyst and in insurance sales. Then moved to Panama City, FL, January of 1972 where they raised their two children Brian Scott Guthrie and Michelle ‘Miki’ Guthrie Murray. Allen was a baseball pitcher growing up and in college. He started coaching baseball in 1967 after his graduation in Killeen, Texas. He was very active with the Jaycees in Killeen during their years there.

Allen began his residential building career in 1975. He began as a finish carpenter, then framer and started a very successful residential construction company for over 30 years. He was a member of the Home Builder’s Association (HBA), as well as holding multiple offices including President, Local, State, Life Spike Member & Lifetime Director with HBA and on several advisory boards locally and statewide in Florida.

Allen continued his passion of coaching youth baseball from 1975-1989 where he coached Junior Major League, Senior Major League and Legion Baseball. He loved each of these young men dearly.

Allen loves our Lord Jesus and was active with Lynn Haven United Methodist Church, Seekers Small Group, Emmaus Men’s Tuesday Morning Group, Hardly Able, and UMC Disaster Relief Team.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Guthrie, Jr. and Mildred Rose Campay Guthrie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Cheryl Pauline Smashey Guthrie, devoted son Brian Scott Guthrie (Jackie); daughter Michelle ‘Miki’ Guthrie Murray (Michael); grandchildren Kristen Guthrie, Jordan Murray, Garrett Guthrie, Olivia Murray and great-grandchild Ansley Guthrie all of Panama City and Lynn Haven, FL; brothers, Kenneth Guthrie (Melbourne, FL) and Dennis Campay (Atlanta, GA). Numerous extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2018 at Lynn Haven United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Luther officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Seeker’s Small Group. Family and friends will be received at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Those desiring to support his love of construction may make memorial donations to Lynn Haven United Methodist Church Building Fund for rebuilding of his home church from the hurricane disaster, or Hardly Able.
