Steven D. Traxler, 59, of Independence, MO, passed away October 1, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Celebration of Life will be 2-4pm, Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Tryst Falls Baptist Church, 22610 MO-92, Kearney, MO 64060. Memorial contributions may be made to: Paralyzed Veterans of America, 4801 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64128.
Steven Douglas Traxler was born in Warrensburg, MO, on June 11, 1959 to Gerald L & Joyce L Traxler. He grew up in the greater Kansas City area where he attended Towerview Baptist Church. He graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1977. During his youth he was active in Cross Country and progressed through Scouts where he joined Boy Scout Troop 707. While in Boy Scouts he served in numerous leadership positions including Senior Patrol Leader and Quartermaster. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and Firebuilder in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
He later moved to TX where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M. He continued to reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area.
He enlisted in the Navy and served in the 9th Naval Construction Regiment and the 22nd Naval Mobile Construction Battalion obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer during which time he was stationed in Kandahar and Kuwait during Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom.
When he was not deployed he continued to work as Project Manager at several construction sites in TX.
In 2015 he moved back to Missouri and he finally took up residency in Independence, MO.
Steven was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Traxler. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Traxler of Kearney, MO; his two brothers: Bruce Traxler of Kearney, MO, and Nathan Traxler of Kansas City, MO; and sister: Vicki Traxler of Platte Woods, MO. He also has eight nephews and nieces and ten great nephews and nieces.
