Edwin Clark Edwards

Born: July 9, 1930
Died: October 18, 2018
Location: Austin, Texas

He would have described his time with us as, "The best life he could ever have."

His generous life began July 9, 1930 in Prairie Lea, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents SB and Lois Lorene Clark Edwards, and his wife of 54 years and love of his life, Mary Jane Moncrief Edwards. A true family man, Clark will be dearly missed by his brother Sam Edwards and his wife Jean, his daughter Emily Marroquin and her husband Dr. Robert Marroquin of Orange, Texas, his daughter Janie Bauman of Santa Ana, California, his daughter Katy Erickson and her husband Dave Erickson of Littleton, Colorado, and his son Campbell Clark Edwards and his wife Nan Edwards of Dallas, Texas. His loving family also includes 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Growing up in rural Texas, Clark and his brother Sammy found a few adventures that have now turned into great tales. Whether trying to wrangle a bull that has gotten loose on the highway back in a trailer, or lighting a cherry bomb inside of his parent's house. His mother was sure working overnight shifts at the family's cotton gin would keep them out of trouble, and she was right.

An Aggie through and through, Clark attended Texas A&M after graduating from high school in Corpus Christi, Texas. A member of the Corp, he graduated in 1952 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Clark married Mary Jane Moncrief on July 12, 1952. They met on a blind date in Fort Worth, Texas, each having other dates that evening. Dedicated to his wife and children, he made sure he was there for them, from each of their births to their weddings.

After serving in the Korean War, Clark began his career as a chemical engineer for Koppers Co., in Port Arthur, Texas. After many years he made a career move to Huntington, West Virginia as the plant manager for another petro chemical refinery. He finished his career after relocating back to Houston, Texas by accepting a position as Director of Corporate Engineering for USS Chemicals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Upon retirement he and Mary Jane moved to Austin. Once in Austin, he found himself surrounded by Longhorns, so decided his new calling in life was to be a missionary, spreading maroon in a city of burnt orange. His biggest passion was Texas A&M, and he could spot an Aggie ring from 30 yards away, and he proudly wore his A&M shirt to Sunday school class full of Longhorns every time the Aggies won.

Equipped with an engineering mind, Clark was a great problem-solver. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and learned magic and card tricks to entertain them. His playful spirit loved by young and old alike. Active even in retirement, Clark enjoyed golf and little friendly competition, and he kept his dance card full with his dear friend, dance partner and bridge partner, Patricia Flores.

An avid reader and traveler, Clark made friends all over the world, and never lost touch with them. Known for his always can-do attitude, he never passed a person on the sidewalk without saying hello. His cheerful, kind and generous nature was infectious, and he could be heard whistling A Kiss is just a Kiss from Casablanca as he walked.
