Peter John Thomas
March 22, 1956 - October 15, 2018

Peter John Thomas, 62, walked into the presence of the Lord October 15th, 2018 in Comfort, Texas. He was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to Hiram Jack and Elizabeth Ann Thomas on March 22, 1956, while his dad was stationed there.

Peter met the love of his life, Cindy Keisling, at a mutual friend’s wedding in 1978, and they were married on June 14, 1980 in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Peter graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 1978 and a went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Agriculture/Economics. After working as an extension agent, a salesman and at a feedlot, he then found his calling as a teacher.

After teaching 7th grade math for 3 years in Eagle Pass, he had the opportunity to move his family to Colorado and begin teaching high school math in Adam’s City, Colorado. God then led him to Kerrville, Texas where he had a position at Ingram Tom Moore Middle School teaching 7th Grade Math. He worked in the Ingram School district for a decade where he taught his eldest son and watched him graduate. While at Ingram, he won the prestigious teacher of the year award, having been nominated by his students. He finished his 30 year teaching career working with at-risk youth in Kerrville ISD and at Hill Country High School. Peter’s coworkers and his students knew him to be a rock and firm foundation; a strong man of faith who worked to make everyone better around him. Everyone that knew him recognized that the school and classroom was his mission field. Peter strove to impact young minds, to encourage and to give Godly wisdom, and to be a reflection of our Heavenly father to many students.

Peter was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church where he led multiple small groups and Sunday school classes. Anyone who talked to him knew that he put God first, adored his wife, and was very proud of his children. He was the loudest supporter of his children and was known for his presence at their events. He valued deep conversations, and was known for his dry sense of humor and creative ways of encouragement. He was a kind and thoughtful man, always looking to see how he could help someone else.

Peter is survived by his wife, Cindy; his son, Jonathan and daughter-in-law, Heather Thomas; his daughter, Natalie Thomas; his son, Caleb Thomas; his grandchildren, Norah and Graham Thomas; and his brother, Stephen Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at Southern Oaks Church in Kerrville, Texas. Pastor Joe Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Community Foundation for the Hill Country High School scholarship fund by calling (830) 896-8811. May the legacy of love for the students he taught and cared about so much about carry on.
