Faruk Jose Nome-Aguilera ’77, May 19,1947- September 24, 2018
Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil.
Ph.D. in Chemistry from A&M. Born in Linares, Chile, obtained an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Chile, Santiago. His research interests included metal distribution models on surfaces and mechanisms of organic reactions in solution
in presence and absence of charged interfaces.
Professor Nome received several awards and honors, including the National Order of Scientific Merit of Brazil, the Grand Cross, and the University Merit Award by UFSC. He was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the World Academy of Sciences, and
the Brazilian Society of Chemistry.
Professor Nome is survived by four children, Faruk Jr., Carlos Alejandro, Rene Alfonso, and Marcelo.
