Gibney Kendrick Jr., DVM
JANUARY 11, 1925 – OCTOBER 1, 2018

Gibney Kendrick Jr., DVM, age 93, was gathered to his people in the presence of the Lord on Monday, October 1, 2018, the very day of his 72nd anniversary of marriage to his beloved wife, Aileen. “Pepa” as his family called him, was born January 11, 1925 in Houston, Texas to Gibney & Bertha (Depenbrock) Kendrick. A graduate of Jeff Davis High School, he completed his education at Texas A&M University completing a bachelors degree in Animal Husbandry, and a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1951. Dr Kendrick proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the US Army during WWII in the Philippians and in Japan.

He and Aileen May Young, of The Dalles, Oregon, were married October 1, 1946. While he was attending Texas A&M, 2 daughters were born to the couple with 2 more daughters born after the family moved to Rosebud, Texas. “Gib” as his wife and friends called him, ranched on the Brazos river and served the area’s veterinary needs. With his education and knowledge of cattle, he help establish an acclaimed new breed called Charswiss. He had a great sense of humor; enjoyed Aggie jokes and used the CB handle, “Mule Doctor”.

A very active member of the Farm Bureau, Dr. Kendrick served as the director of District 8 for a number of years and was instrumental in eliminating the cattle screw worm epidemic of that day. In 1959, the family moved to Marlin, Texas, where they built a home, and resided until 2000. The Kendrick’s were members of the Ward Street and Eastside Churches of Christ in Marlin, where Gibney served as a Bible teacher and elder for many years. Gib and Aileen enjoyed traveling for a number of years as members of an Avion travel club and shared many rich experiences with grandkids and friends. They moved to Sun City, in Georgetown, Texas, in 2000 where they resided until 2017 when they transitioned to assisted living at The Wesleyan.

Here in Georgetown the Kendrick’s made many dear friends in the Sun City community and the Georgetown Church of Christ where they worshipped. Dr Kendrick enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting and was a talented wood carver, leaving a collection of intricately carved western and Indian figurines and busts.

His greatest joy and legacy was his family. He is survived by his wife Aileen, and three daughters, Karyn Daily and husband Charles of Georgetown, Texas; Linda Fitte of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Betty Lou Turner and husband Todd of Stephenville, Texas. He was preceded in death by their youngest daughter, Carroll Lynn, in 1999. Grandchildren include Allen Douglas and family of Heber Springs, Arkansas; Steven Douglas and family of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Amy Robinson and family of Nanjemoy, Maryland; Cilff Fitte and family of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Jonathan Fitte and family of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Matthew Fitte and family of Alvin,Texas; Angela Turner of Round Rock, Texas, and Marissa Carter and family of Hasting, Oklahoma. “Pepa and Mema” have 12 great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering honoring Dr. Kendrick at the Georgetown Church of Christ on Hwy 29 on Saturday, October 6th from 2 PM to 4 PM. Military honors will be rendered at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at a future date.
