David Cline Strickler
NOVEMBER 2, 1932 – SEPTEMBER 19, 2018

David Cline Strickler, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 19, 2018, surrounded by family. David is survived by his daughter Ellen Dominica Smith and her husband Mark Smith, his daughter Deborah Josephine Abbott and her husband Robert Abbott, his son David Cline Strickler, Jr. and his wife Kim Strickler (May), eight grandchildren, Micah Smith, Erin Smith Anderholm, Hannah Smith, Audrey Abbott, Lauren Abbott Till, Lindsey Strickler, David “Cline” Strickler, III and Colton Strickler, and three great grandchildren, Merritt Smith, Henry Anderholm, and River Smith. David was born on November 2, 1932, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Edgar Dale Strickler and Josephine Reeves Strickler. He spent much of his youth in Vidalia, Louisiana before moving to Houston with his family. In 1955, while at Texas A&M, David married his wife of 56 years, Ellen Pietravalle Strickler. After graduating in 1956 from Texas A&M with a five-year architectural degree (officially class of ‘55), David served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army before starting his career as an architect. David had a long and successful career running his own architectural firm which designed many notable residential and commercial projects in the Houston area. David and Ellen lived and raised their family in the Hilshire Village community of Spring Branch for nearly fifty years. David is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Reeves Strickler, his wife Ellen, his daughter Anne Strickler, and his grandson Andrew Strickler. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the caregivers and staff at Autumn Leaves-Riverstone, and to Joy Thomas, who all helped provide David with compassionate care. A funeral is scheduled for Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10am in the chapel at St. Laurence Catholic Church (3100 Sweetwater Boulevard, Sugar Land, Texas 77479), with a reception to follow. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to The American Alzheimer's Association or a charitable organization of choice. Tributes and words of condolence can be left at www.settegastkopf.com.
