Kristie Michelle McFarling

July 29, 1979 – September 13, 2018

We are saddened by the loss of our beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, Kristie Michelle McFarling. On September 13th, surrounded by friends and family, she peacefully left our world, to be at home with the Lord. The love Kristie gave to our world was endless, and in her true self, she departed this earth on her terms. She leaves a legacy of joy, laughter, strength and unwavering faith.

She leaves her memories to be cherished by her devoted husband, Thomas, their two children, Thomas Jr. and Ava, her mother, Marilyn Edwards, her sister, Angela Wilke, and her countless friends and family. She joins her father, Phillip Edwards, in heaven.

Born on July 29, 1979, as a 1-year anniversary present to her parents, Kristie continued to be a gift to others her entire life. She graduated from Humble High School where she was active in academics, band, modeling, and the Houston Polish community. She later graduated from Texas A&M University, where she met her best friend and future spouse, Thomas McFarling. The two enjoyed many travels together and made their home in Austin, TX. Their biggest joy has been in raising Thomas Jr. and Ava who share Kristie’s intelligence, and enjoy a love of reading, music, and adventure.

With her indomitable spirit and loving heart, Kristie dedicated countless hours improving her community by volunteering within her children’s school PTAs and mentoring underprivileged children. Kristie also contributed to the personal support network for other young metastatic breast cancer patients. She tirelessly volunteered her time and energy for fundraising and awareness for cancer support networks like BCRC, MBC Research Project, Pink Ribbon Cowgirls where she made numerous friends and inspired the lives of many others.

The McFarling family gives the sincerest thanks to all who have continuously supported Kristie through her journey. They offer their forever gratitude for the dedication and care of Dr. Beth Hellerstedt. With her friendship and care, Kristie was able to enjoy 8 years of family, friends and adventures after her diagnosis.

A celebration of Kristie’s life will be held at 10am on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Grace Covenant Church, 9431 Jollyville Road, Austin, TX, 78759, with a reception to follow. Flowers may be sent to Grace Covenant Church. Please consider making donations in Kristie’s honor to the Breast Cancer Resource Center (bcrc.org), or Camp Kesem (campkesem.org/tamu/), both of which had immeasurable impacts on the lives of Kristie and her family.

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

2 Cor. 4:16-18
