Robert W. Martin(1927 - 2018)
MARTIN, Robert W. Robert Walter Martin passed away at the age of 91 on September 6, 2018. Born on July 4, 1927 in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late Mary Louise and Carl Martin. Bob was a graduate of Sunset High School and received an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M in 1948. He was employed for many years with Southland Life Insurance Company becoming senior vice president/chief investment officer of the mortgage loan division, served as president of Foster Mortgage Corporation, and until his retirement, was president of Preston Mortgage Corporation. Bob is survived by his wife of 38 years Shirley Hodges Martin, his son Glenn Martin (Judy), Vickie Spann (Jimmy), and Pam Varnell (Jeff); step daughters Patricia Simpson (Tim), and Nancy Winsand (Wayne), as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandson Michael Martin and stepson John Weiss. Bob was a communicant of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church serving there as a chalice bearer and for a year as Master of Ceremonies. A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held in the Saint Michael Chapel on Saturday, September 29 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to Texas A&M Foundation or Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
