Adam Davis Winters Jr.
Adam Davis Winters, Jr. of Nederland passed away February 8, 2008 at Magnolia Manor nursing home in Groves, Texas. He was born May 22, 1911 in New Iberia, LA. His parents were Adam Davis Winters, Sr. and Effie Emma Price Winters. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, and two step-sisters; Mrs. Louise Rogers and Mrs. Gloria Weinbaum. He was retired from Sun Oil Company Geophysical Lab in Beaumont, where he worked as Chief Design Engineer. He was a 1928 graduate of Nederland High School and attended South Park Jr. College. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University and Lamar University. He served during World War II as a Captain in the Army Field Artillery, 8th Observation Battalion, training troops for overseas deployment. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nederland where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was instrumental in getting the Southeast Texas Genealogical Society started. He loved working on family genealogy, doing pen & ink drawings, wood working, traveling and raising amaryllis. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Deane Campbell Winters, two daughters; Gay Trahan and husband James of Nederland, Patricia D. Krueger and husband Robert of Nederland, one son; Adam D. Winters, III and wife Joan of Ogunquit, Maine, step-sister; Gwen Knowles and husband Denver of Nederland, step-brother; Dow Wynn and wife Audry of Montgomery, Texas. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A graveside service with military honors is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Oak Bluff Memorial Park at 10:00 am in the Veterans section, under the direction of Broussard's in Nederland, with Reverend Tony Miller officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:00pm at the mortuary. The family wishes to thank the staff of Magnolia Manor nursing home for their tender loving care. Also, the family thanks the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, friends may want to send a memorial contribution to the First United Methodist Church CFC building fund, P.O. Box 905, Nederland, Texas 77627.

Adam,of Nederland, passed away at Magnolia Manor nursing home.

He was a 1928 graduate of Nederland High School. He attended South Park Jr. College and was a graduate of Texas A&M University and Lamar University.

He served during World War II as a Captain in the Army Field Artillery, 8th Observation Battalion, training troops for overseas deployment.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nederland where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was instrumental in getting the Southeast Texas Genealogical Society started. Winters, III and wife Joan, step-daughter; Gwen Knowles and husband Denver, step-brother; Dow Wynn and wife Audry. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
