Steen Erik Oldenburg Burrell
July 14, 1972 - September 6, 2018
Steen Erik Oldenburg Burrell, 46, of Costa Rica passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Frisco, TX. He was born July 14, 1972 in Zimbabwe, Africa to Niels Erik Oldenburg and Margot Moorcroft. Steen married Jeaneth Varela on July 2, 2018 in Chavarria, Costa Rica.
He grew up saying he was a Texan at heart, even though he was not born here. Steen received is BS in Economics from Texas A&M. He was a proud and loyal Aggie and loved the Dallas Cowboys. He was a big kid himself and loved being a father. Steen had a humor that endeared you to him and had a way of making the best of even the worst situation. He loved his step-father, Jack Burrell and his mother, Margot with all his heart and was an incredible brother to his sisters. Steen was a successful Chief Financial Officer for his father’s hotels and the hotel manager of Flamingo Beach Resort and Spa in Costa Rica.
Steen is survived by his mother, Margot Burrell of Frisco, TX; father, Niels of Costa Rica; wife, Jeaneth of Costa Rica; two sons, Erik Oldenburg and Jan Steen Oldenburg both of Costa Rica; sister Kelly Oldenburg Watson of Frisco, TX; and nephew, Henry Watson of Frisco, TX.
He was preceded in death by sister, Kim Amanda Oldenburg and step-father, Jack Luse Burrell.
Visitation will be held 10:00AM-10:30AM, Friday, September 14, 2018 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX. The funeral service will begin at 10:30AM with Rev. Don Kirsch officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Aubrey, TX. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
