George Henry Boyett
FEBRUARY 3, 1935 ~ SEPTEMBER 7, 2018 (AGE 83)

George Henry Boyett, of College Station, passed away on September 7, 2018. He was 83 years old.
With the exception of a brief period serving in active duty for the U.S. Army, George was a lifelong resident of College Station. He was born in a home which stood at the corner of University Drive and Boyett Street. After graduating from Steven F. Austin (Bryan) in 1953, he attended Texas A&M University, where he was a Ross Volunteer and a member of the swimming team. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958.

After completing six years of military service and returning to College Station, he held jobs with multiple local companies. He eventually formed several successful residential and commercial real estate investment and development partnerships with various family members.

George will be remembered for his keen sense of duty and loyalty to his family and his community.
While in college, George met and married the love of his life, Gaytha. They married in Texas A&M’s All Faiths Chapel in 1957, and together raised three children. They also cared for his aging mother and mother-in-law in their declining years. His example of devotion and service to family members is a valuable legacy.

George was an avid scouter. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and earned a Bronze Palm as a young man. He continued his involvement as an adult, serving both boys and adults in numerous volunteer positions at the troop, district, and council level. The Sam Houston Area Council awarded him the Silver Buffalo in recognition of his efforts, and more recently had received the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. More important than these awards, though, was his determination to live the tenets of the Scout Law and the Scout Oath in his daily life. He certainly did his best to do his duty to God and country and to help other people at all times.

George also felt a keen sense of duty to the community. He was elected as a Brazos County Justice of the Peace in 1988, and served in this capacity until retiring in 2015. During his time as a Judge, he also taught for the National Judicial College and the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was an Associate Judge for the City of College Station for numerous years. He also served as a Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy for the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Finally, George was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served the Church in multiple capacities over the years. In addition to his dedication to family, he was a mentor and counselor to many.

George is survived by his wife, Gaytha, two sons, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter. While his family deeply mourns his loss, they also find great joy in celebrating his life.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favor local charity. Some to consider: The 100 Club or Hospice Brazos Valley.
