W.J. "Dub" Richmond
W.J. "Dub" Richmond was born at his paternal grandparent's home in Blanket, Texas, on February 15, 1928. He grew up the only child of Macon and Dona Richmond, both of whom preceded Dub in death. He spent his first 16 years attending Blanket schools, then matriculated to Tarleton State University in 1944, and continued on to Texas A&M, where he majored in Civil Engineering. His higher education was interrupted by a call from the United States Army, where he served with "D" Co. 4th Engineering Battalion in Germany. He returned from Germany in 1952 with the rank of Master Sergeant and continued to serve in the Reserves. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army in 1956. In 1953, he married Brockie McCasland, who he met on a blind date in Abilene, Texas. To that union was born two children, Melissa and Steven. Dub spent his working years with Humble Oil & Refining, subsequently Exxon, as a land surveyor. Dub was passionate about land surveying and held surveying licenses and registrations in several states. He served several terms in various positions on the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying. In the late 60's and early 70's, Dub worked for ARCO, surveying for the fledgling Alaskan oil industry in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and was later involved in the trans-Alaskan pipeline project. He retired from Exxon in 1985 to spend his time traveling with Brockie, visiting his family ranches in Brown and Brewster counties, and enjoying his grandchildren. Dub thoroughly loved all things outdoors, including firearms, hunting, and fishing. He nurtured and passed these passions along to his children and grandchildren. He had a deep seated love of Texas history and could recite endless interesting stories about people, places, and events that occurred all over West Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Macon and Dona Richmond; and Brockie, his wife of 50 years. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa, her husband Gary, and their daughters Renee' and Jennifer of Montgomery, Texas; his son, Steven, and his wife, Susan of Georgetown, Texas.; his "brother," second cousin Jule Richmond, his wife LaNita, and their sons Cade and Cody Richmond, and daughter, Wendey Lesley, all of Brown and Comanche Counties, Texas. Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 14, 2015 at Ellis Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 15, 2015 at Golf Course Road Church of Christ with Tim Baugh officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
