Albert J. “Joseph” Whipple III

Albert J. Whipple III, known to friends and family as “Joseph,” passed away on July 16, 2018, at the age of 70 years.

Born in Tampa, Florida, Joseph attended the University of Texas A&M, graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and prior to continuing with his master’s program he was drafted serving in the US Army stationed in Germany.

He began his civilian career with Swift & Company meat packing plant in San Antonio, Texas in meat processing quality control. After a short period, he relocated to Overland Park, Kansas as his long-term home where he continued in this industry until his retirement.

His love of the outdoors started at a young age, which sparked his passion for guns. Training as an Army sharpshooter was just a start in his lifelong passion of competitive shooting, which included trying out for the US Olympic Rifle Team. He also had other interests such as photography and collecting stamps and coins. He enjoyed sharing his excitement and enthusiasm for his pursuits with his friends that he gained over the years.

He is survived by his mother, Jean, youngest brother, Jeff (Mary) and their children Kevin (Cassie) and Farralyn (Trey), Sister-in-law, Carol Winning (Bill), and his nephews Chris (Melissa) and Jason, and other relatives. Joseph was predeceased by his father, Albert, and brothers, John and James.

The family will like to extend a special thanks to longtime friend John Lewis.
