Boyd, William Bennett, 94, of Winter Park, FL, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife Billie Faye Spencer Boyd. Bill (or Bennett, as he was affectionately called by his Texas family) was born January 30, 1924 in Palestine, TX, the son of James Lee Boyd and Ida Lee Brown Boyd. He attended Palestine High School, graduating in May of 1941. After high school, Bill attended Texas A&M University until the spring of 1944, when he enlisted in the Army. Bill served with distinction in both the 69th and 29th Infantry Divisions, participating in several important engagements in the last months of WWII. Bill earned numerous decorations, including a Bronze Star. After his military service, Bill married Billie Faye Spencer on August 27, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church of Palestine. They honeymooned in New Orleans. Bill and Faye returned to College Station, TX where they lived until he graduated from Texas A&M in December of 1947. In January of 1948, Bill and Faye moved to Lynn, MA, where he accepted an engineering position with General Electric Co. In October of 1948, Bill and Faye moved to Cincinnati, OH, with GE where they lived for twelve years, and where their two oldest children were born. In 1960, the family moved to Ft. Wayne, IN, where their youngest child was born. In 1963 the family moved to Louisville, KY. In 1968 the family relocated to Manlius (Syracuse), NY, when Bill accepted the VP of Manufacturing position with Carrier Air Conditioning. In 1975, Bill accepted the position of Group VP with American Standard, Inc., NYC. Bill and Faye moved to Madison, NJ with their youngest child. During Bill's years with American Standard he and Faye traveled to many places, including Egypt, Greece, China, Japan, Italy and the Western U.S. states. Before retiring in 1989, he served as Chairman, President and CEO of American Standard. Bill also served on the boards of several companies, including ARMCO Inc., Enserch Corp., and FMC Corp. He was founder and president of William B. Boyd & Associates, a consulting firm. Bill served on the National Junior Achievement Board, as a member of the Advisory Council of the Business School of Ithaca College in New York, and as co-chairman of the Building Products Executives Conference in Washington, D.C. In 1989 Bill and Faye moved to Ft. Myers, FL, followed by a move in 1996 to Winter Park, FL, to be near their children and grandchildren. As members of the Texas A&M Nucleus Fund, Bill and Faye contributed significantly to scholarship programs and also established two endowed scholarships and an endowed fund for the academic libraries at Texas A&M. In 1986, Texas A&M School of Engineering named Bill among its Distinguished Alumni. Bill and Faye also founded the Boyd Foundation Inc., which supports nonprofits in the Central FL region. Bill enjoyed reading, golf, sailing, bridge, bowling and skiing. Bill always enjoyed a new car, a good joke, the Kentucky Derby and dining out with friends and family. Out of all the things he accomplished in his life, his greatest pride and joy was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed a long and happy life. Bill is survived by his children Susan Boyd Rothlein (Lewis) of Asheville, NC, Thomas Boyd of Cicero, NY, Laurie Boyd Hagemaier (Paul) of Winter Springs, FL; grandchildren, Joshua Harrold (Rachel), Emily Harrold, Andrew Boyd (Shauna), Jordan Rothlein (Lindsay Fischler), Kyle Hagemaier (Krystle), Dana Krauser (David), and Caitlin Boyd; great grandsons Weston Boyd, William Hagemaier, Phineas Harrold, and Henry Krauser; step great grandsons Kyle Ruggles, Kameron Ruggles, and Lunden Hughes. The family is exceedingly grateful to Angela Wiggans for her years of dedication and loving care. They also wish to thank the caregivers of FirstLight for their compassionate care. The family held a private memorial and celebration of Bill's life on October 27, 2018. Bill was laid to rest next to his beloved wife Faye at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park, FL. He had a strong connection to Texas A&M throughout his life. As members of the Texas A&M Nucleus Fund, my parents contributed significantly to scholarship programs and also established two endowed scholarships and an endowed fund for the academic libraries at Texas A&M. In 1986, Texas A&M School of Engineering named my father among its Distinguished Alumni. Upon my father's death a significant portion of his estate was left in his will to the academic libraries as per his wishes. Corrections to errors in the Jan-Feb issue: Survivors: 2 daughters & 1 son; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandsons; 3 great step-grandsons.
