Arthur G. Wimer Jr.
PASSED AWAY ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2018

Arthur G. Wimer, Jr., a native of Texarkana, Texas, and resident of Tallahassee for 25 years passed away peacefully at his home in Bradenton, Florida.
Mr. Wimer attended public schools in Texarkana and graduated from Texas A&M in 1940 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He entered WWII as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He subsequently received specialized training in electronic and radar at Harvard and M.I.T. Later, he served as a radar officer with the Ninth Air Force Troop Carrier Command in England where he participated in support of the June 6th Normandy Invasion. He was then assigned to the Seventh Air Force Bomber Command in the Pacific and was stationed on Okinawa when Japan surrendered in 1945.

Following the war, Mr. Wimer married his longtime sweetheart, Helen I. (Renie) Bell of Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 18th, 1945. Mr. Wimer is survived by his wife of 73 years, their three children: Dr. Arthur G. Wimer III (Barbara) of Orlando, FL; Mrs. Gilda (Michael) Stewart of Orlando, and Mrs. Victoria (Gary) Rademaker of Bradenton, FL. Four grandchildren, Brianna (Dan) Griffen, Will (Becca) Rauscher, Mason Rademaker, Brenna Rademaker. Four great grandchildren, Logan Griffen, Owen Griffen, Brock Griffen and Landon Rauscher.

After WWII, Mr. Wimer was employed with the US Air Force as a civilian engineer/manager. After a brief recall to active duty during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Wimer spent 30 years in a variety of research and development positions for the Air Force. At his retirement in 1973, Mr. Wimer was the Chief Scientist of Air Force Systems Command. In the mid 1960’s, Mr. Wimer was listed in Who’s Who in America for several years. During his tenure, Mr. Wimer was twice awarded the Air Force Commendation for Meritorious Civilian Service and subsequently, the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service by the Secretary of the Air Force.

After retirement, Mr. Wimer performed some consulting work and served in a number of volunteer activities. Retired as a Major in the USAF Reserve, he served in the Tallahassee Chapter of the Air Force Association, and retired Officer’s Association, including Director of the Tallahassee Retiree Activities Office for three years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 6, 2018 at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee with interment to follow.
