Robert Posey Jr.

Bob Posey, longtime resident of Alpine, met his maker on April 30, 2015. He was 95 years old.

Robert Posey Jr. was born in McLennan County on March 14, 1920. The son of Robert Posey Sr. and Mary America Cobb, he was raised in Dallas and on the family ranch near Haskell.

Mr. Posey served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-1947 in the Pacific Theater. Upon discharge from the Marines, he attended the University of Colorado and Texas A&M University. Bob was a chemist by profession, and spent his career with Dow Chemical in Houston and then Baton Rouge, La.

Posey retired from Dow Chemical and moved to Alpine in 1985, and for many years was known as “Mr. Republican” of Brewster County, serving as county chairman.

Bob Posey was married to Carolyn Allen of Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, who preceded him in death. He has three stepchildren, Beverly (deceased), Carolyn Doxie of Cobb County, Georgia, and Bill Allen of Plaquemine, Louisiana.

He is survived by nephew Dan Posey and his wife Mary of Marble Falls; cousin Sam Cobb of Hobbs, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was blessed with good health all his life, and for the last several months was cared by his loyal caregiver Laura West and numerous friends, including Bob Stovell, Gary Dunshee, David Eckley and many others.

Mr. Posey will be interred at Elm Grove Cemetery at 2 p.m. on May 5. Services will be conducted by Rev. Damien Grout of Holy Cross Anglican Church.
