Royce E. Roberts
October 28, 1943 - August 14, 2018
Dr. Royce E. Roberts Jr., DVM, DACVR passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the age of 74 years.
Royce was born on October 28, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Royce and Ruth Jamar Roberts. He graduated from Austin High School in 1961. Upon graduation he entered Texas A&M University, finishing with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1967. Post graduation
he became a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 1974.
He enjoyed an extensive career in veterinary medicine, serving as a Department Head of Anatomy and Radiology at the University of Georgia. He was also the past Radiology Department Head at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Professorships
at Auburn and Mississippi State and numerous awards of accomplishment filled his career before his retirement in 2006. Post retirement Dr. Roberts was head of the Radioiodine program for veterinary hospitals in Atlanta and Austin.
He married Karen Garyotis Roberts in 2004 and they settled in the Fredericksburg area in 2006. They shared many fun outdoor times with their Australian Shepherd dogs and Quarter horses. Royce once an avid outdoors-man had become an accomplished skeet shooter.
Dr. Roberts is lovingly remembered by his wife Karen, and sons and wives, Scott and Carla Roberts and grandchildren Walker and Riley of Greensboro, Georgia, Brice and Marigny Roberts and grandsons Braden, Chase and Heath of Roanoke, Virginia and step-son Michael
Allen of Savannah, Georgia.
He is also survived by his sister, Susan Roberts of Austin, Texas and a nephew, Calvin McKinney of Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joanna Devine.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Information to follow.
