Charles R. Sprague
FEBRUARY 24, 1935 – AUGUST 21, 2018

Charles R. Sprague passed away on August 21, 2018 at Brookdale Spring Shadows in Houston, Texas.

He was born on February 24, 1935 in Lansing, Michigan. He received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1957. While on active duty in the United States Army, he proudly served his country in several locations, including Korea, France and in the Vietnam War. He remained in the Army Reserves until 1981 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Charles attended Texas A&M University to continue his education, receiving both a Masters and PhD in Civil Engineering. While at Texas A&M, he met his wife of 57 years, Betty Canavespi Sprague.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Ruth Sprague; sister, Christine Long; and son David Sprague. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Canavespi Sprague; sister, Janet Price; sons, Charles R. (Bobby) Sprague, Jr. and Mark Sprague; Mark’s wife, Lelia Sprague, and granddaughter, Lelia Cameron Sprague. Services will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2:30 PM at the Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, Texas, officiated by Deacon Bill Scarmardo. Viewing will take place starting one hour before the service, and graveside service will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the West Point Association of Graduates (wpoag.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
