MARCH 3, 1937 – AUGUST 13, 2018

Dr. Shirley "Ann" Sims Kidd, PhD RN, born March 3, 1937, in Wilmington, Ohio, quietly passed away at her home in San Antonio, Texas on August 13, 2018 at the age of 81, after a multi-year battle with Breast Cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ruth Sims, and her step brothers, Donald and Kenneth Edward Gastiger. Dr. Shirley Ann is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Burton Edward Kidd; children, Gregory Kidd (Leslie), Eric Kidd (Lori), Cathy Kidd; sister, Sharlene Hilderbrand; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Truman. A graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 11:00 am. Memorial Services will follow at Fellowship of San Antonio, 23755 Canyon Golf Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258 at 2:00 pm. Dr. Shirley Ann Sims Kidd was married to Burton E. Kidd on May 5th, 1958, on the British Crown controlled "Rock of Gibralter". She attended Professional Nursing Training at the University of Cincinnati and Jewish Hospital Nursing School from Sep 1955 to May 1958, a RN Diploma Program, later completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, May 1983, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Majoring In Nursing, which led to higher aspirations, she then attained a Master of Science Degree in Nursing, Majoring in Community Health with a Minor in Nursing Administration and Teaching. (GPA: 4.0), from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was not yet finished with her educational goal and entered a Doctoral Program at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, where she received a Doctor of Philosophy Degree with Honors, Majoring in Adult and Extension Education. August 1996. During her Master of Science Degree program she also participated and completed 3 Internships at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio relating to her academic major: 1986: Community Health Internship with a State Legislator in Austin, Texas; 1987: Medical-Surgical Internship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, supervising a group of 10 Baccalaureate Students in a clinical practicum setting; 1987: Nursing Administration Internship at Brady Green Community Health Center, San Antonio, Texas. Participating in the functional aspects of leadership, communications and decision making in a health care agency providing ambulatory care. 1995: The Doctoral Program Internship at College Station, was as a Production Assistant with KLRN-TV (Public Television) consisting of Television Special Topics production techniques for educational distance learning. Honor Socities: Sigma Theta Tau, Nursing Honor Society, University of Texas Health Science Center, Nursing School, San Antonio, Texas; Kappa Delta PI, International Honor Society, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. Professional and Nursing Organizations 1992 to 2018: American Association of University Women, Texas Nurses Association, STAHQ (South Texas Association Healthcare Quality). Dr. Kidd was totally dedicated to her Educational and Nursing Profession and maintained her professional Nursing credentials in a "current status" up to the date she departed this planet. She is missed and will conrtinue to be missed "forever" by everyone in this family as well her many friends and associates.
