JANUARY 21, 1927 – AUGUST 19, 2018

Daniel A. Nelsen, 91, of Victoria, Texas went to meet our Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 19, 2018. Dan was born on January 21, 1927 in Danevang, Texas to the late Hans Jacob Nelsen and Anna Emilie Andersen Nelsen. Dan graduated from El Campo High School. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, focusing on radar technology research and development. Dan had an exceptional 36-year career at Alcoa where he served as a metallurgist and technical director of the smelting division. After retiring, Dan was actively involved in the Sunrise Rotary Club for 20 years. He also volunteered with the Gideon’s International and enjoyed handing out Bibles to help spread the Gospel. On June 1, 1957, Dan married the love of his life, Norma Lee, and he was blessed to enjoy sixty-one happy years of marriage. He also had a wonderful life as a husband, father, and grandfather. Dan was a great listener, encourager, and tireless loving father. He was the gold standard of leading by example. Dandy, as he was fondly called by his grandchildren, was a loving and supportive grandfather. He was actively involved with his grandchildren’s activities and loved taking pictures to document every moment he had with his family. He also was a constant learner, studying a variety of new topics as well as being a devoted student of the Word of Christ. Dan is survived by his wife, Norma Lee Nelsen of Victoria; children, Dr. Danice Nelsen Couch White and husband Phil White, David Nelsen and wife Julie Nelsen; grandchildren: DaNae Couch Lowe and her husband Dr. Geoffrey Lowe, Stephen Couch, Bryce Couch, Robert Nelsen, and Austin Nelsen. Dan is also survived by his brother-in-law Lane Johnston, and sister-in-law Lynell Allen and her husband Jerry Allen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Victoria, Texas where Dan was an active member for 38 years, serving as Treasurer, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. Pastor James Shamburger will be officiating. Internment will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church at Victoria, Texas or Gideon’s International. Funeral services under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Home.
