Shreveport - A memorial service for John Oliver Hayter Jr. will be held at 11:30am, Monday, July 30, 2018, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana, with Dr. Greg Davis officiating. Visitation will be at 10:30am, prior to the service.

John was born in Greenville, Texas on November 6, 1924, to John Oliver Hayter and Minnie Richards Bass Hayter. He grew up in Greenville as a member of the "Jones St. Gang" graduating from Greenville High School in 1942.

He attended Texas Tech, Ohio State, and graduated from Texas A&M in 1949 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He served in the military in Europe during WWII with the Army Combat Engineers.

John began his career with SWEPCO in 1949 and retired in 1987 as Vice President of Marketing and Industrial Development and a director on the board of directors.

John served professionally on the Northeast Texas Development Council, the executive committee of the Louisiana Industrial Engineers Association Council, the Ark-La-Tex Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was a past member of the Downtown Lions Club, The Shreveport Club, the Shreveport Country Club, East Ridge Country Club, Petroleum Club, Bayou Syndicate. John was a faithful member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church serving in the Couples Class and on the administrative board.

John's personality came through in his smile, kindness and respect for everyone he met. His laugh was contagious. His stories hilarious. His problem solving in every phase of his life was amazing.

John passed away at 93, on July 25, 2018, the anniversary of his Father's birthday. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother, Robert Bass Hayter, and his sister and brother-in-law, Minnette and John Goodman.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Marjorie McKinney Hayter, his 2 children: John Oliver Hayter III (Chouttie), and Susan Larsen(Lee), Grandchildren: Jay Hayter(Heather), Lauren Reynolds (Bryan), Scott Hayter, Maggie Broman(Scot), Amy Larsen(Dustin Young), Great-grandchildren: Jack Hayter, Leighann Hayter, Gracie Reyonlds, Griffin Reynolds, and Alex Young. His joys in life were his children, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Dr. Randy Del Mundo, Dr. Iqbal Singh, the staff of the Oaks of Louisiana, St. Joseph Hospice, and caregivers: Gerald Johnson, Mary Williams, Demetria Mitchell, Alvin Nunsett, Loretta Brown, and Markita Markham.
